In the wake of a mass shooting during a Dallas, Texas, protest of the recent deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. It’s pretty obvious that tensions have heightened on both sides of the debate. Sadly, however, is the fact that police officers are actually allowing their emotions to get the best of them. One such case involves a police officer in Overland Park, Kansas.
A Kansas cop was fired for making bizarre online threats against a complete stranger’s young daughter after the attack on Dallas police.
Officer Rodney Lee Wilson was dismissed from the Overland Park force Friday after he commented on a public photo of LaNaydra Williams’ daughter, India — a 5-year-old who lives about 500 miles away in Dallas.

“We’ll see how much her life matters soon,” he wrote on a 2014 photo showing little India posing in a pair of boots. “Better be careful leaving your info open where she can be found 🙂 Hold her close tonight it’ll be the last time.”
The chilling comment came just after five Dallas cops were killed while protecting an anti-police brutality protest downtown.
Unfortunately, this is not the only example of abhorrent behavior on the part of police officers. In Memphis, Tennessee, two police officers were suspended without pay for posting a racially offensive threatening post on Snapchat.

If a police officer would go as far as to threaten a 5-year-old black child on social media. What then are we supposed to think a police officer like Rodney Lee Wilson would do, while on patrol? Of course, all police officers are not like Rodney Lee Wilson. Similarly, every black person protesting against police brutality and the use of deadly force is not like the Dallas shooter, Micah X. Johnson. If we’re to get anywhere moving forward, this must be understood by everyone. As for Wilson, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Because what he did was criminal. After all, black lives matter, yes?
