UAW Endorses Hillary Instead of Bernie

I’m not trying to piss off the fans of Bernie Sanders any more than I already have recently. But, anyway, cue the sad trombone given this latest development thanks to the fine folks at the UAW.

In what could be deemed a huge disappointment to Bernie Sanders and his campaign, the UAW has decided to endorse Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. If this doesn’t signal the end of the Sanders campaign – a campaign that is strapped for cash as we head into the final two primary contests – then, I really don’t know what else to tell you.

hillary-clinton-uaw-endorsementMy guess is that many of Bernie’s most fervent and deluded supporters will brush off this latest news with the predictable assertion that the UAW are shills for Wall Street. Which by now, has become their retort of choice. Because, of course, we all know that the UAW is an organization known to ignore the interests of the working class and show eternal favor to the interests of their corporatist masters, just like Hillary does.

This from the Detroit Free Press:

UAW President Dennis Williams endorsed Hillary Clinton today after surveying members and observing that the former Secretary of State is within 100 delegates of clinching the nomination.

While he called Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders “a great friend of the UAW,” he told MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews, “It’s about time for unity. We’re endorsing Hilllary Clinton. She’s gotten 3 million more votes than Bernie, a million more votes than Donald Trump. She’s our nominee.

“She understands our issues on trade, understands the complexities of multinational economies and supports American workers, their families and communities.”

The endorsement came as Clinton has 2,305 of the 2,383 delegates required to win the nomination at the Democratic National Convention this summer in Philadelphia. Sanders has 1,539 delegates.
