Philly Mayor Mike Nutter Enforces New Curfew Because Of Flash Mobs

Aug 09, 2011 9 Comments by

Until today where I heard Philadelphia Mayor, Mike Nutter sounding pissed and enforcing curfews on teenagers, I had no idea what was  Flash Mob. Maybe it’s just me, or the fact that I’m getting old, but I never knew just who or what in the hell a flash mob consisted of.

I mean I saw an AT&T commercial where the guy got the text message too late and showed up too early for the flash mob thing. So, I guess from that I assumed it was one of those deals where “happy people” showed up in a public place and broke into a dance or sumthin. Or maybe some random event where women would show up at one particular location in the city and pulled out their titties or something. You know, kinda like the same way some clown always runs across a footbal field butt-naked, just for the pleasure of being tackled by security?

Yeah, in my mind that’s what a flash mob was, and never thought it to be violent. But now that mayor Nutter has blown his cool, I’m trying to understand just what is the fun in some dumb shit like that? Where the fun in getting a group of people together via text messaging to show up at a specific location to terrorize the general public. I mean, what the hell happened to “Red Light, Green Light,” or “Hide & Go Get It,” or any other childhood game of my youth. Sure I’m showing my age, but what’s this shit about? More importantly, who started this dispicable act of random niggerdom juvenile delinquency?

So I did some looking into this, and this is what I found:

There is a disturbing sociological phenomenon occurring. It’s the Philadelphia flash mobs in 2011.

Flash mobs are usually organized whimsical events that are meant to amuse the public. However, the teenage flash mobs of Philadelphia are out to steal, assault, and destroy.

Sometimes, the lawless acts of the flash mobs are spontaneous. Other times, they’re planned and premeditated. Below are three recent teenage flash mob crimes committed in Philadelphia in 2011.

- On June 28, about 100 or more teenagers who left a concert night committed a series of violent crimes. One of the crimes took place when a group of teens ran by a Max Brenner restaurant and snatched valuables from the patrons.

When one of the patrons ran after the thief, she was punched in the jaw and called obscene names.

- On June 25, a teenage flash mob brutally assaulted pedestrians. One of the victims was Emily Guendelsberger, an editor at The Onion, who had her leg broken.

Guendelsberger tweeted that there might have been 100 teenagers and that some of the men with her group “got pretty f***ed up.”

Molly Eichel, a Daily News writer, was with her at the time. She said “some kid just came out of nowhere and punched my friend Charlie in the face.”

On June 23, a group of teenagers boarded a train, got off at a stop near a Sears store, entered the Sears store, and stole sneakers, socks, and watches.

The mob committed their robbery in less than four minutes. Three or four teenagers stayed outside the Sears store to act as lookouts.

I dunno, but this shit sounds pretty ridiculous to me. We bitch about municipalities cutting back on funding for recreational centers, summer programs, and activities for kids. But I’d be damned if such programs have been cutback to the point where kids in Philly are idle enough to come up with some sill stuff like these so-called flash mobs. This might be the “in thing” or the cool thing to do for some. But it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt, or even killed because of this nonsense.

The curfew ain’t even gonna be carried out in the HOOD…where it NEEDS to be. Only in the OTHER parts of Philly (AKA…the SUBURBS…and you know who mostly live there). Nutter Really isn’t liked too much in Philly. Most the people I talk to of ANY race can’t stand his ass.

I’m sick of stupid shit!  This is a sign of the workings of an idle mind in a capitalist country. All this is going to do is create more fodder for the prison and cemetary business.

I got no holla or support for any male assaulting any female period.  None of these teens would go whip the ass of a KKK member or any American Nazi.  They lack true ambition because I would rather try to hit Fort Knox or a bank–I know boosters who can steal anything–when their asses are not locked up.  I’m not even impressed with the loot they lifted. Shoes, watches and socks–no cash or anything beyond a nigga rich mentality. It says a lot about what is not on their minds.

Obviously the fact that we have access to such easy, quick, mass communication, it’s cheap, universal and allows for some mostly low brow coordination it was obviously coming soon. In my business I have seen 4 minute operations that have netted a quick few hundred dollars in actual goods(liquor, cigarettes, beer, and game of chance items) that could be turned into a few thousand on the block. I have seen people attempt the same operation and it take hours, if lead by the right person one could get in and out quickly especially if the “plan” is to grab a quick handful.

How do you chase 100 people? I mean that is the beauty of a flash mob it is organized chaos for those not in the know. And it’s not like you can have 100 employees(if you have them) chase them, while you aren’t minding the store others could come in and clean up. I mean you want to say it’s hard to believe but it’s not, if it’s an easy concept to grasp(and a flash mob is, get a text meet up at a set time and place, act in unison and vanish) people will start incorporating it into their thoughts, plans and schemes. Flash mobs have been used for political purposes, flash mobs have been used for fun and games, and now they are being used to reduce the chance of getting caught. Get in and get out, just grab one quick hand full and let them attempt to figure out who they are gonna chase.I can imagine the security guards head exploding as he tries to figure out which kid he is gonna chase.

And even if you have them on camera, do you know how long it takes to find an event and then to track down a shot with a decent view of their face. If you know an approximate time on average just to find the incident it takes me about 30 minutes, I have to find the start time, the end time(when the accused leaves the store or is caught with said merchandise), I then have to look to see if I can find where they came from and in what, I have to find the proof that yes they did steal, break, or commit fraud against the company whom I am called to assist. And by proof I mean video and photo showing them doing the deed and then attempting to leave like nothing happened, granted some of the new software makes it easier, but I usually still have to do a few quick photos(which means moving the camera slowly so I can get the best view of a face and or proof of weapon/merchandise stolen). All in all I figure MINIMUM time on site for me is at least 2 hours per incident and I’m usually only looking for one or two people, rolling footage back on them to see best shots. Now if for one or two it takes me two hours that means I would have to expand that to 50 more times, because I would have to get EVERY face distinctly, every distinctive marking on a piece of clothing, any visible tatts, when they grabbed said piece of merchandise and fled, when they entered and exited the door. The beauty of a crowd is that unless somebody is wearing the equivalent of a red, yellow or white evening gown with matching heels I can guarantee nobody has focused on a single person in all that chaos.

Eh, are they stoopid..Yup. Kids got too much time on their hands and parents who couldn’t give a fuck or can’t give a fuck (those three part time jobs take up a lot of time). The suburban parts of New Jersey are now being attacked by flash mobs of young people. They do the same type of damage as described above.
Are flash mobs strange and unusual. Absolutely not; I’m just waiting for the silly to turn serious and then possibly useful. Wake me up when the smartmob gets here.

I would say it is political if I”ll be allowed to say this is a result of the anger, frustration and general disregard for others that these young people feel they are a victim of being projected back onto society.

Yet despite your using you as an example of how difficult it is to identify criminals captured on cameras mobbing,  they are catching and prosecuting them using video surv. Maybe you should call the people who are providing the images and they can give you tips on improving your skills and efficiency.   If you know how to tell time it shouldnt be very difficult in tracking down an event, event happened at around 1800 ok, start scanning from 1730 forward until you see a store suddenly crowded with people stealing-duh.

  • http://primaldata.blogspot.com/ PRIMALDATA

Ooh noo, you sure did insult me. Did you not understand the example or did you just figure I would come back and attempt to insult you. Did I say you couldn’t catch them, or did I say it takes a LOT OF TIME TO CATCH THEM? Sheesh, reading is fundamental I love the fact that this site still gets the good trolls.

This isn’t a DVD with chapters genius, this is the DVD with chapters about to be added, I’m the person figuring out “okay when should we give them the next jump point so they can skip ahead in the story”. It’s just like a movie it may take you 2-3 hours to watch but it took them at least 8 months to make it. So I thank you for your clueless statement seriously, I am soo embarrassed to have to repeat something pretty simple:It takes a lot of time to catch 100 people plus.

Since I do this on a regular basis I will forgive you the moment of hubris, because you still just proved my point if I am scanning from 1730-1800 It will take me APPROXIMATELY 30 minutes MINIMUM to find the incident. Unless it happen at 17:35 and that’s if that approximately 1800 is accurate, because what if it happened between 1800-1815? Thanks though, you just showed in that short a paragraph how thankless a job some people have, because your BRILLIANT suggestion still didn’t take into account actually preparing said information to be passed on to the next level, which mine did. Even on TV they show it taking HOURS to gather evidence, so would you like salt for your foot or are you good with it au naturale

Here let me help you ” oh it’s so hard to scan between 1730 and 1800, I would have to scan 30 minutes of data fast forwarding and my finger would get tired ohhhhh and wait, what if..what if…oh god no, what if it really happened at 1815 I have to think sum more they told me it happened between 1730 – 1800 , now I need another week to FF and find all those faces… do you realize I may have to scan another 15 minutes of data with FF…damn a brutha gets no appreciation and shit in a store like this its so HARD they could have three even four cameras damn so many things to decide, what do I do??. Do you know how many years of training and how special you have to be to put up with his extremely difficult job of scanning and finding something in 30 or even 45 minutes of data. Damn, I deserve a rest.

  • http://primaldata.blogspot.com/ PRIMALDATA

Bwahahahaha, sooo after I find it ummm how are they gonna get it in the court room? Come on skippy, you want to double down lets see how DUMB you want to make yourself look. Come on spit it out, do you expect me to give the ENTIRE surveillance system to the police? I’m waiting man I’m really enjoying this INSIGHTFUL conversation we are having.

Come on genius, explain to me again how ALL I have to do is scan through 30-45 minutes worth of video and then the police got em
