My position is we gain nothing, nothing at all when we abstain from voting out of protest. Protest of this type is invisible, silent and ignored; it amounts to merely giving away a right. Politicians know every vote counts, and failing to take advantage of every opportunity teaches us to sit back, whine and argue among ourselvves.
Btw, a well-written letter can be quite powerful, and accompanied by a well- thought public statement it can provide a solid platform for public discourse.
Given the opportunity, I would not hesitate to vote and write.
