Having said that, just in case you have held on to the idea of Obama being a Muslim — you know, because being a Muslim would make him anti-American — without the necessary evidence as proof. In steps everyone’s favorite right-wing religious zealot and bigot, Bryan Fischer.

Speaking on his radio show, Fischer states that the exchange of America’s last POW in Afghanistan, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five members of the Taliban held in GITMO proves that Obama, is indeed a Muslim. Which is shocking because you’d think that the Kenyan birth certificate seen by our friends on the right would have that information. I mean, we had to wait all these years for this as evidence?

Bryan Fischer said the deal to release Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl provides further evidence that President Obama “is secretly a Muslim.”

 

Asserting that Obama insisted on releasing five members of the Taliban as part of the exchange deal because he is constantly attempting to assist radical Islam all over the world, Fischer asserted that Obama’s “face lit up like a Christmas tree” when Bergdahl’s fatherbriefly spoke in Arabic at the White House, which is another reason to believe that Obama is actually a Muslim.

 

“I’ve had Washington insiders tell me everyone in D.C. believes that secretly he is a Muslim,” Fischer said, “and when President Obama does stuff like this, it starts making that explanation easier and easier to believe”

Fuck, you would have thought Obama’s meetings and brokered deals with the Taliban wouldn’t be a big deal. Especially since President Ronald Reagan sat down with the Taliban at the White House back in the 1985 and brokered deals with the Taliban himself. Oh well, I guess the Taliban didn’t take pictures with Saint Ronnie Raygun on that day.

(Hell, Reagan even gave the Taliban stinger missiles!)

But don’t tell this to people like Allen West — or the rest of the crazies — who, thanks to FOX News, stated that Sgt. Bergdahl’s father “Claimed the White House for Islam.” I mean, a white man with a ZZ Top-looking-beard who could pass as the redhead cousin of the Duck Dynasty crew, standing next to Obama? While speaking in a language familiar to the Taliban and Obama’s extremist Kenyan cousins? Yep, we only have two more years of this ignorance left.

Hell, how dare America’s first black president bypass congress (less than any other president since the 19th century) basically, to save the life of an American citizen? And not just any citizen; but, a citizen who has sacrificed his life for the freedom everyone enjoys. Damn shame that POTUS isn’t allowed to properly serve as the Commander-in-Chief without having his allegiance questioned.

The inmates that are really good, that have been in the ward for a real long time, get to take the stage and talk to the others. They are considered the craziest of the crazy. There they were, in full display for all of us sane people to watch.

They said the nuttiest things like mothers who can’t pay for their kids lunches don’t love them. That was inmate Ryan. He loves to work out in the ward’s gym. He tried to become second in command of the nuthouse a couple of years age but failed miserably.

There was a really crazy woman who likes to dress up like a hooker reading from “Green Eggs and Ham.” Her name is inmate Palin. Don’t make too much fun though because that is where her reading level is and she really does try! Unfortunately she doesn’t comprehend enough to realize, in that novel, the person who tried the green eggs and ham, which she equates to Obamacare, actually liked the meal. But at least she is reading and that’s a good thing. She also tried to become second in command of the nuthouse some years back, and failed.

There was a guy who doesn’t like to comb his hair. Inmate Trump. Whenever a nurse tries to comb it he screams “You’re fired!” and runs away. He was up on the stage saying that the leader of Russia, Vlad Putin, was toying with Obama and playing him for a fool. This makes sense when you look at this inmates particular neurosis. He often pretends to be a dictator, ruler of the world! So the doctors believe it makes perfect sense that he would relate to a guy like Putin. Inmate Trump will probably never get out.

Some of the inmates are rather old, and have been in the institution for a very long time. This would be inmate McConnell. When he came into the institution they allowed him to bring in his old rifle which couldn’t shoot any bullets anyway so it’s harmless. He went on stage waving his rifle, looking like the old man who screams to get off his property before he shoots! Old inmate McConnell really just looked silly and totally nutty. The other inmates really loved that one. We sane people just thought jokingly, “Yeah you are really really tough..wow!” Poor old guy.

There is inmate Cruz from Texas. He has this weird obsession with health care. Whenever a nurse tries to give him his meds he yells about repealing his medications! He gets up and shouts “We are all going to repeal our medications with or without the support of this asylum.” It’s funny because he has been screaming about this for years and he even led his fellow inmates in 50 mock appeals of their medications. But alas they are still forced to take them. Doesn’t stop inmate Cruz from ranting and raving about repealing them. The doctors just pat him on the head and say “Sure Teddy sure..”

The asylum’s favorite inmate this year is inmate Paul. It’s complicated to get into but his dad, former inmate Paul, was often the favorite of the asylum so the inmates love his boy as well. They both have this weird sing song way of talking that is really annoying but it seems to sooth the other inmates. It even makes them think the world would be a perfect place without rules or regulations because then they would be able to run the asylum…the inmates. So it makes sense that they would consider him top banana of the asylum.

Finally there was a relatively new inmate who is sometimes liked and sometimes not liked by the other inmates. This year they seem to like him. He is inmate Christie. He went on stage and really got the other inmates on his side by saying that their crazy ideas are actually loved by the sane people outside the asylum when they really get to hear them. This made the inmates go crazy with applause. Inmate Christie really knew what to say to get his fellow inmates to adore him again. This makes some of the doctors wonder if he is actually crazy or just really sly and manipulative. For now they are going to keep him in the asylum because he likes to play with little toy cars and miniature bridges. It really occupies his time.

Yes folks this was CPAC 2014. Amusing as hell for us sane people to watch. But also kinda sad and scary when you think about how these lunatics actually exist and get a platform to show off their psychosis year after year.

This week, I think said sardonic characterization of POTUS has hit a historic low; yes, the metaphorical comparison of Obama and Satan represents this. But like Dionne writes, this isn’t uncharted territory for any president, as they have been all subject to scornful critiques. Yet and still, I can’t help but to think that there’s a racial component at play with said claims or attempts to discredit, devalue, or delegitimize president Obama:

They say that President Obama is a Muslim, but if he isn’t, he’s a secularist who is waging war on religion. On some days he’s a Nazi, but on most others he’s merely a socialist. His especially creative opponents see him as having a “Kenyan anti-colonial worldview,” while the less adventurous say that he’s an elitist who spent too much time in Cambridge, Hyde Park and other excessively academic precincts.

Whatever our president is, he is never allowed to be a garden-variety American who plays basketball and golf, has a remarkably old-fashioned family life and, in the manner we regularly recommend to our kids, got ahead by getting a good education.

Please forgive this outburst. It’s simply astonishing that a man in his fourth year as our president continues to be the object of the most extraordinary paranoid fantasies. A significant part of his opposition still cannot accept that Obama is a rather moderate politician quite conventional in his tastes and his interests. And now that the economy is improving, short-circuiting easy criticisms, Obama’s adversaries are reheating all the old tropes and cliches and slanders.

True, some of this is driven by cable television (a venue in which I acknowledge regularly participating). Attacks designed to gin up the conservative base are quickly recycled to gin up outrage within Obama’s own base. Moreover, Obama is not the first president caught up in the rank unpleasantness of this particularly unforgiving political moment. A quick Google search will unearth references to George W. Bush as a “Nazi,” and Bill Clinton’s Republican opponents went so far as to impeach him in a shameful episode of extreme partisanship.

Dionne is correct in suggesting that Obama isn’t alone as far as presidents go when it comes to the preposterous assertions of their opposition. But I’m sorry, when claims are made questioning the faith of this nation’s current president — who happens to be Black — and likening him to being a tool of Satan as Rick Santorum has, I must say that much of this is rooted in racism. I know it may sound crazy, but name another president who’s citizenship, faith and “phony theology” has been questioned as president Barack Obama has. Oh, and when you find him, please be sure to check and make sure that he too is Black. Sure you won’t find another Black president in history before him; and that alone helps me prove my point. That would be, by virtue of him being a Black man, it’s easier for him to be demonized and disrespected as he has, for political gain.

Jesse Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson: Putting the "Coon" in Conservative Since Emancipation

So here we are today, and now there’s is talk of him having some link with Satan. Yes, that Satan; yep, the master of all evil and father of lies. And enter slave catcher extraordinaire and frequent guest over at Fox News, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson.  If you’ve been a reader at this site for some time now, you’ll know that Peterson is no stranger to our much coveted weekly slave-catcher award. As far as recipients go, I must admit that there’s never been none more deserving than Peterson, who literally grew up on an the very same Alabama plantation where his ancestors were once slaves. This might explain his love affair with all things Caucasian, and his subsequent hatred of “Blackness” and in turn, himself. It is only with this knowledge that one can make sense of his recent statement in support of Newt Gingrich in South Carolina, where Peterson said that Black folk should be forced to return to work on plantations. According to him, such a training program is necessary to instill a “good work ethic.” Apparently working for free on a plantation is what we need.

I know, it’s hard to believe that someone Black would say something as nonsensical, and freedom adverse as this. However, to know and understand Peterson is to know and understand why what he says in the following isn’t surprising; nope, not in the least bit to be quite honest. Just check out the statement released by the South Central L.A. Tea Party darling, and frequent Fox News guest, on the “American hating Socialist” otherwise known as president Barack Obama. In support of Rev. Franklin Graham and Rick Santorum, Peterson weighed in with the following. According to him, Satan is targeting America; and, he is  is responsible for Obama’s 2008 election victory. I suppose next they’ll say Satan in a Democrat who has a legion of white demonic liberal minions.

“I am certain without a doubt that Barack Hussein Obama is NOT a Christian. It’s unfortunate that Rev. Graham and Rick Santorum won’t be completely honest about Barack Obama even though his deeds are contrary to Christian values.

“Both these men oppose Obama’s recent contraceptive mandate and assault on the Christian conscience. They know that for 20 years Obama worshipped in Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s racist Black Liberation Theology-based church. They fully grasp the spiritual connection America has with Israel and see that Obama is no friend of the Jewish State. Rev. Graham has said that Obama is more concerned with the plight of Muslims than the Christians that are being murdered in the Muslim countries. Still these Christian leaders cannot tell the truth about Obama. Why?

“I do agree with Santorum that this is a ‘spiritual war’ and that ‘Satan is targeting the U.S.’ which is precisely why I believe Barack Obama was selected and elected. I’m convinced that the weak-kneed timidity that’s preventing many white conservative Christians from pointing out Obama’s wickedness is a result of their fear of being labeled ‘racist.’

“Evil understands that most white Christians have been intimidated and are too afraid to stand up to it. Especially when it is operating in the form of an American hating Socialist black president who appears to be more in harmony with Muhammad than he is with Christ.”

Listen, folks: there’s racism, and there are racial enablers like Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson. Be that as it may, as long as their symbiotic relationship exists, we can expect more of the same seething behavior we’ve grown accustomed to when it comes to racial politics in America. President Obama can hang himself on a cross and sang the Star Spangle Banner on Mount Rushmore, and he’ll never be recognized as a legitimate president of the United States. It’s really sad; but, this is the tried and true strategy of the ideologically bankrupt members of the the GOP.  Being sore losers and descendants of the one-third of the eight million white southerners at the time of emancipation who were illiterate, it’s the only way to gin up support for getting the president out of office. Linking president Obama to Satan represents a new low for our Republican friends; so much so, that if one of them were to publicly call him a “nigger,” it would actually be a compliment to be quite frank.

E.J. Dionne was right in pointing out how other presidents were also assailed with the dreaded metaphorical dart. But unlike my man Joe Scarborough who refused to see the racial dynamic on Morning Joe this morning (see here). Dionne also made the following assertion:

[…] But there is something especially rancid about the never-ending efforts to turn Obama into a stranger, an alien, a Manchurian Candidate with a diabolical hidden agenda. Are we trying to undo all the good it did us with the rest of the world when we elected an African American with a middle name popular among Muslims?

In my experience, even Americans who voted against Obama were proud that our nation showed friend and foe alike that we are a special place. We know it’s wrong to judge people by their race or lineage, and we so value religious freedom and openness that we elected a Christian convert who is the son of a Muslim father and an agnostic mother to lead us at one of our most difficult moments.

Yet many in the anti-Obama camp just can’t stop themselves from playing on fears that electing a man who defies old stereotypes was a terrible mistake.

I hear you E.J., but hey in America it’s hard for a Tiger to change it’s spots, my friend. Oh well, GM is alive, and Osama bin Laden is dead. I suppose it’s up to president Obama to kill Satan and Lex Luthor to finally become a true American, a Christian, or not-so melanin challenged human being.

No seriously, this sounds kinda crazy to me. I mean, if God doesn’t have a problem with a gay man being the choir director in his churches, surely he wouldn’t take issue with members of the gay and lesbian community in the U.S. military going to war and killing folks in his name, and that of country. Truthfully, I’m really confused by all of this and I need help, folks. Sure faith made America strong, as Rick Perry says. But could it be that we placed to much faith in our God fearing politicians?

Sure would be nice if God would “CC” us when he emails his thoughts to folks like Perry.

As we near the November election, many right wingers are getting more insane and nutty in their rhetoric.  The most offensive part is that they do so with the Holy Bible in their hands and are followed by people who claim to know Jesus.

Rather than just give a bunch of verses from the Bible that could easily be dismissed and taken out of their context, I will instead offer words spoken by Jesus himself.  Though many will find excerpts from their own verses to refute many of the points offered below, the fact remains, based on his direct words, JESUS himself would not agree with the RIGHT WING.

Here are five reasons why…

1)      Jesus had LOVE for those who were not his brethren.

“If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?  Are not even the tax collectors doing that?  And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?”  – Matthew 5: 46-47

A common theme among many right wingers is the idea that only those that agree with them are American.  So called Christian right wingers have taken it to an even further extreme and say that only ‘Real American Christians are worthy’ and all others are serving the devil and will go to hell.  This rhetoric is not based in a place of love and concern for others.  Jesus put others first and not just those whom shared his view. He spoke to Jews and gentiles alike.  Had they existed during his life, he may have even embraced Muslims.  He loved all people, but hated the sin.  This is the concept missed by many right wing Christians.  Every day in the media, right wing Christians shows the world their anger and contempt for all things different, but should be showing you the kind of love that Jesus is describing in the verse above.

2)      Jesus was not a hypocrite.

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”  – Matt 7: 3

“These people are only looking for hand outs” this is an example of the type of rhetoric should never be repeated by a Christian of any kind.  As a Christian, we know that first and foremost, that God gives handouts.  In fact, the most important handouts that God gives ones that not everyone deserves.  The first handout is life itself.  Why do the wicked and truly get to live as we do?  The second is forgiveness. If you honestly believe in John 3:16 there will be people in heaven that we may have thought should have gone to hell but God chose to forgive them.  Finally, Jesus has a handout.  In fact, he gave out handouts to those who others think did not deserve them.  He healed people with leprosy.  Feed the poor.  Forgave criminals and prostitutes.  Therefore, it is completely hypocritical of ANY Christian to look down on the poor and needy and being unworthy of any help that they ask to receive.

3)      Selfishness.

It is tough to be a part of the right wing and not use the phrase ‘My Taxes, my country, or my money”.  Jesus would not have uttered any of this.  Just under the turn the other cheek verses Jesus said the following.

“Give to the one who asks you and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” – Matt 5:42

Part of being a true Christian is giving to those that ask and having the faith that your needs will be supplied. However, as right wing, Christians stump on the threat of a ‘socialist agenda’ and fear of wealth distribution and this is NOT in line of what Jesus said.  As a Christian, we are to believe that nothing of this world is ours and that it ALL belongs to God.  Sadly, based on their rhetoric, many of these Right Wing Christians would blame the multitude of 5,000 of being lazy and have not taken care of their own money wisely, rather than attempt to feed them with two fish and five loaves of bread.

While we are on the subject… lets talk about taxes…

“Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?  Show me a denarius.  Whose portrait and inscription are on it?  …  Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”  – Luke 20: 22-25

Despite how brutal and burdensome they may have been, Jesus willfully and peacefully paid taxes.  As a Christian, we should know, the money itself does therefore; it is also it is hypocritical for ANY Christian Pastor or follower of Christ to utter the phrase, “my tax money”.  Yet, many do.  Jesus could have, but did not.

4)      Peace

“But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment.”  – Matt 5: 22

Jesus was a man of peace.  He would never threaten violence.  However, the right wing is almost characterized by its threats of violence and anger.  This should not be a characteristic of the so-called Christians within that party but it is.  In the Beatitudes is emphatically states that “Blessed are the peacemakers.”  Yet, many Christian Conservatives have embraced the concept of violence as a means of communicating their views to the rest of the world.  However, Jesus himself never recited rhetoric that meant to instill fear, hatred, or distrust of anyone.  Yet, high profile Christian leaders such as Pat Robertson on down have trickled the notions of violence from the pulpit. Sadly, many so called Christian followers have also embraced this.

5)      The Dual Allegiance

“No servant can serve two masters.  Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.”  – Luke 16:13

Can a Christian truly serve and be as Patriotic as many of these Right Wing Nut Jobs claim to be.  Better question…  is who are they truly serving when they claim carry the Bible in one hand, but carry a gun or the constitution in the other?
