By now, you’ve probably heard about Judge Edith Jones, a former chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. If you haven’t, you may want to sit down and take your nerve pills pronto.

Judge Jones is in the media spotlight for having racist attitudes regarding blacks, Latinos and Mexican Nationals. She alleged believes that blacks and browns are predisposed to committing violent crimes. (Where have we heard that one before?) Plus, she thinks giving them the death penalty will give them an opportunity to make peace with God. Due to the allegations, Federal Appeals Court reassigns a death penalty case away from her.  It was reported that she made her racist comment during a discussion of the case with another judge, James Dennis, who was told by Jones in the same conversation to “shut up.”

Certainly, being a judge and having a racist disposition is a major reason why so many blacks and brown people are filling jails and prisons. However, that is not all that was discovered about this judge. It was revealed that she has more skeletons inside her moth ball smelling closet of hers. Think Progress’ Ian Millhiser reports on Jones attitude towards a sexual harassment suit:

“A paper mill worker named Susan Waltman’s supervisor told her to have sex with a co-worker, “pinched her buttocks with pliers and tried to put his hands in her back pockets,” and fellow employees hung used tampons from their lockers. When she complained to a manager, she was told she should “expect this type of behavior working with men.” After she complained, an employee of another company that worked in the mill grabbed her arm while she was carrying a vial of hot liquid, and another worker stuck his tongue in her ear. One of her co-workers told her “he would cut off her breast and shove it down her throat.” He later dangled her over a stairwell thirty feet above the floor. Though she met with senior managers about these incidents, the harassment continued. At one point, a co-worker “grabbed Waltman’s breasts and directed a high pressure hose at her crotch.”

Judge Jones wrote a dissenting opinion claiming that this woman’s sexual harassment suit should be thrown out.”

And there was the time she asked The Supreme Court to re-evalute Roe v. Wade:

“In a case attempting to reopen Roe v. Wade, Jones wrote an opinion claiming that “the Court’s constitutional decision making leaves our nation in a position of willful blindness to evolving knowledge should trouble any dispassionate observer not only about the abortion decisions, but about a number of other areas in which the Court unhesitatingly steps into the realm of social policy under the guise of constitutional adjudication.” She urged the Supreme Court to “re-evaluate Roe.”

Jones have been known never to turn down free junkets from conservative groups and major corporations like Koch, Exxon and General Electric:

“Jones ranks fourth, according to a 2010 report by the Alliance for Justice, among judges who have accepted free junkets paid for by conservative groups. These kinds of “junkets for judges” are often sponsored by groups funded by corporate donors with business before Jones’ court.”

Is there any reason to be surprised that this crook was offered a seat in the Supreme Court? If Jones had been appointed by former President George W Bush, conservatism would’ve been running way more wild for sure.

JONESKnowing that there are judges like Edith Jones is a frightening thought, especially for us colored folk. How many more Edith Joneses are out there sitting in their chairs with similar racial sentiments regarding black and brown people? How many of them allow their prejudices and power to influence their judgements and decisions that vomit all over the meaning of justice?

Jones will have a lot of explaining to do since she’s now a social pariah. As we’ve seen lately, conservatives are losing their grip on what little sanity they have left. Jones may be punished, but the damage has already been done due to the white racial frame in this nation’s injustice system, and will continue to do more damage if something drastic isn’t done.

This following may come as a shock to some of you; but, just for the record, I support the Ku Klux Klan being able to participate in Georgia’s “Adopt-a-Highway” program, I know, such a stance is hard to believe when coming from a professional racism chaser such as myself. But hey, right is right, and wrong is wrong. And, as far as I see it, no laws are being broken by them being able to adopt a strip of highway in north Georgia. Now, if you tell me that they plan to add the occasional “whites only cross-burning” to the pruning of begonias along a major thoroughfare, then I’d say hell no.

But hey, they’re allowed to hold public rallies (and march) on the steps of county courthouses where they spew their hateful rhetoric because the constitution grants them that right. That said, what’s the big deal if they wanted to spruce up their image by adopting a strip of earth alongside a highway? Heck, last time I checked, there were many statues of prominent Klansmen in public parks, no? Yeah, anybody asking that they be removed? No, and nobody is raising hell about it.

(Reuters) – A Ku Klux Klan chapter sued the state of Georgia on Thursday for rejecting the white supremacist group’s application to “adopt” a stretch of highway.

The KKK chapter, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, said Georgia’s refusal to let it join an adopt-a-highway program, which typically involves volunteers picking up trash and planting trees along roads, violated its free speech rights.

The state’s reasons for denying the application were “frivolous and pretextual” and were designed to “shift their duty to uphold free speech to a court instead,” the lawsuit filed in Georgia state court said.

“We decided to take this case because it is such a clear violation of the speech rights of the group,” said Debbie Seagraves, executive director of the ACLU of Georgia. “We can’t let that slide.”

Georgia officials cited public safety concerns when they denied the group’s application to join the program in June.

Road signs are typically installed by U.S. states to recognize participating organizations, and the Georgia Department of Transportation told the Klan chapter that erecting a sign with the Klan’s name could lead to potential social unrest and distraction of drivers.

From left, Knighthawk, April Hanson and her husband Harley Hanson, members of the International Keystone Knights Realm of Georgia, perform a traditional Klan salute along the portion of highway they want to adopt allowing them to put up a sign and do litter removal near Blairsville, Ga., Sunday, June 10, 2012. The Ku Klux Klan group wants to join Georgia's "Adopt-A-Highway" program for litter removal, which could force state officials to make difficult decisions on the application. “A state road sign with ‘KKK’ on it would betray our values and would rightly offend the vast majority of Georgians,” said Brian Robinson, spokesman for Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.

That might not be enough to keep the Klan out of the program. In 1997, the state of Missouri rejected a similar request from a Klan chapter on the grounds that the group’s membership rules were racially discriminatory.

A federal appeals court ruled that requiring such a group to alter its membership requirements to qualify for the adopt-a-highway program would “censor its message and inhibit its constitutionally protected conduct.”

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the Missouri case. Following the court ruling, the Klan was allowed to adopt a stretch of Missouri highway and did so for a short period. (source)

I watched the opening night of the RNC Convention on MSNBC. I grew disgusted as lie after lie after lie was told, but wasn’t surprised by it in the least. Nevertheless, I figured a family night of Negrospotting — yes, my entire family watched with me — among the sea of Caucasians in attendance would have been fun. Heck, as bad as the economy is now, and given the black unemployment rate, I just knew the Rent-A-Negro store in Tampa would have made such a task easier. Yep, I figured there would be more black folks in attendance, and I figured they would have been spoylioghted intentionally by network camera men. But lo and behold, I never knew network camera people would become the story — especially the black ones. Talking Points Memo is reporting that a black camerawoman employed by CNN, was assaulted by an RNC attendee .

This from Talking Points Memo:

An attendee at the Republican National Convention in Tampa on Tuesday allegedly threw nuts at a black camerawoman working for CNN and said “This is how we feed animals” before being removed from the convention, a network official confirmed to TPM.

The CNN official declined to confirm specific details of the incident to TPM but generally confirmed an account posted on Twitter by former MSNBC and Current anchor David Shuster: “GOP attendee ejected for throwing nuts at African American CNN camera woman + saying ‘This is how we feed animals.’”

It is not clear whether the alleged culprit was a delegate or attending the convention in some other capacity.

In a written statement, CNN addressed the matter but divulged few details: “CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment.”

Jeez, and to think this was only day one of the Klan rally RNC Convention.

Last tim around I was called a “nigger” by a Ron Paul supporter in my comment section; and, I must say, the irony of that really made my day. Nothing like debating the racist past of a wannabe presidential candidate, and having a supporter of his attempt to d4emean me by using a racial slur. If he only knew me he would know that it takes a lot more than that to insult me. As a matter of fact, it’s long been my opinion that anyone who uses the word “nigger” to insult a Black person does this out of fear. Some people say it’s hate; and yes, this may be so. However, in 2011 or 2012 depending on when you’re reading this, it is only out of fear that a powerless individual uses the word.

OOPS!!

So yeah, I don’t sweat that shit one bit. Shit, you think slaves cried themselves to sleep every night because they were called “niggers.” Nope, instead they were busy trying to figure out how to get out of their situation. Oh, and I don’t have to tell you many of them were quite successful and figured it out. So yeah, with a Black family in the White House right now, I’ll be a “nigger,” a proud one at that. Because at the end of the day, it’s good to know that some of you are afraid of Black folks after all these years.

I suppose this is why they’re clamoring and trying to do all they can to prove that Ron Paul isn’t a racist. Along with the slew of videos popping up of Black folks professing their love for Ron Paul on YouTube. There is now a Blacks For Ron Paul 2012 page on Facebook. I suppose all of this proves he isn’t racist. But just in case you’re still skeptical, check out the following video making the rounds today. The following video is all the proof we need to understand that he is not racist, or that there isn’t a racist bone in his body. Yep, after watching the following, you’re supposed to forget the racist newsletters, or him hanging out with the paleoconservative John Birch crew. Yep, because at the end of the day, all it takes is one act of kindness to kill racism. That’s right, all it takes is one act of kindness. Behold “The Compassion of Ron Paul!” How can he be racist if a Black guy says he isn’t.

Sometimes I write these articles with my tongue literally lodged in the side of my mouth because what I may write here as news isn’t news to some people. Living as a woman of color in a world in which WEB Du Boise described as a ‘double consciousness’ I am well aware of the dual perception of the police as friend and foe. If I climbed the highest rooftop and screamed the following statement……

“THE NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT ARE DANGEROUS, LAWLESS , PUBLIC SERVICE THUGS”

Would you agree or call me crazy? Would you jump to the defense of the one or two nice cops that you know who risk their lives daily to protect and serve or would you keep silent knowing full well that their implied civility is generally attached to skin color.

With the emergence of the internet and smart phone offering the opportunity for anyone to record and broadcast video we are now all becoming more aware of the abusive and privileged ways in which the NYPD operate.

Others are more than aware of how easy it is to be confronted by the City’s officers, not for issues involving a public code violation, but for what I can only describe as bully treatment. The recent protesters of the Occupy Wall Street movement have to deal with nature’s elements as they continue their symbolic occupation but no one was prepared for the onslaught of abusive treatment protesters have been subjected to at the hand of New York’s Finest. Anytime a person finds themselves begging to not be arrested when they have not violated any laws we have to wonder at what point do we allow ourselves to transition into a communist dictatorship.

Are you familiar with that type of confrontation where one must decide what action is most likely to ensure their survival? I know people of color are weary and suspicious of the police after years of targeted brutality suffered at the hands of those put in charge of our civilian code of conduct but white people, on the other hand, may have still been thinking that the police are ‘our friend’.

If you are not familiar with this phenomenon I can point you to this article about the NYPD overheard on wiretapping tapes using some colorful language to describe the various ‘nationalities’ they are in charge of protecting.

I understand the confusion, I do, it’s hard to tell if the abusive behavior of the NYPD is a result of the actions of a few or if it is a departmental culture. There is after all a BIG BLUE SEA of Internal Affairs investigating discrepancies and that dam Blue Wall of Silence to climb and peer over. Once they give us a press conference, put the officer on desk duty for a week or two and inevitably dismiss the charges against the officers there is nothing much else more for you and I to do.

I mean, so far, we only have a reported rape and arrest by a drunken off duty police officer who used his gun to intimidate a woman into a secluded area before raping her. Eyewitnesses called authorities to report the assault; his legal defense is calling the sex consensual. So a teacher on her way to work in the morning decided to hop in the bushes with a man she does not know to have a tryst.

It’s understandable, I do it all the time, you see.

The NYPD may have met their match, considering the recent threat that was released by the group ANONYMOUS via YouTube.

The underground hactivist group has given a warning to the NYPD that the protesters should be left alone.

Yes, friends, we are now living a reality where people using a Guy Folks mask are the ones to come to our defense; but like in the movie V for Vendetta, will we stand with our brave heroes or will the public choose to cower in hopes that it will never be one of us on the receiving end of some pepper spray or a service revolver? Either way, I’m stoked, because I believe, as do the people in the ANONYMOUS video that it will take something drastic to shift the direction in which we are going.

“Remember, remember the 5th of November”

Will this line remain a catchy pop reference phrase or should we also be curious as to what the date may represent if the NYPD continue to play the role of power drunk overseers. So far the date has been rumored to be the day in which hackers will take down Facebook..Stay tuned….
