A lot of people found 2013 to be a bad year. MSBNC had a really bad year.

The ratings have been in the toilet. They moved Ed Schultz out of prime-time to a Saturday afternoon (!) dead zone and then back to just-out of prime time though his show wasn’t getting clobbered as badly as the hapless Chris Hayes is by the invincible O’Reilly Factor.

MSBNC gave Alec Baldwin a “talk” show. At least, I guess it was. It got yanked off the air so fast over Baldwin’s bad temper and big mouth that it’s hard to remember what kind of show it was supposed to be.

Martin Bashir lost his afternoon show for suggesting someone should defecate in Sarah Palin’s mouth.

Just to wrap things up in a big red bow, on the Melissa Harris-Perry show, the panel had a big tee-hee over Mitt Romney welcoming a new grandson, an adopted Black baby named Kieran Romney, to the family and hilarity ensued on the show.

“Everybody loves a baby picture,” Harris-Perry said, “and this was one that really, a lot of people had emotions about this baby picture this year. This is the Romney family. And, of course, there on Governor Romney’s knee is his adopted grandson, who is an African-American, adopted African-American child, Kieran Romney.”

As Harris-Perry made the introduction, panelist Pia Glenn sang “One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn’t the same,” a tune whose original lyrics read “one of these things doesn’t belong.”

“And that little baby, front and center, would be the one,” she added.

“And isn’t he the most gorgeous?” Harris-Perry said. “My goal is that in 2040, the biggest thing of the year will be the wedding between Kieran Romney and North West. Can you imagine Mitt Romney and Kanye West as in-laws?”

Comedian Dean Obeidallah chimed in by reducing the baby to a token. “I think this picture is great,” he said. “It really sums up the diversity of the Republican party, the RNC. At the convention, they find the one black person.”

There goes the neighborhood.

I don’t like Mitt Romney and he would have been a lousy president, but while he is rich elitist and exhibits no particular concern for other races it doesn’t by default mean he’s overtly hostile to them either. But even if he was that’s no reason to make fun of his Black grandson.

Harris-Perry quickly issued an apology on Twitter and her MSNBC page, but it was too late. She had handed her critics a sword and they pounced to impale her with it accusing her of reverse-racism against the Romneys.

At the beginning of her Saturday program Harris-Perry issued another apology to Governor Romney’s family and those she offended with her failed attempt at humor, but didn’t make it though the segment before breaking down tearfully.

Romney was scheduled to appear on Fox News the next day where he was certain to be asked about the controversy, but the blogosphere wasn’t about to wait for him as one critic sneered, “She’s only sorry because her producer/ station caught so much backlash, they knew they needed to apologize. I seriously doubt it’s heartfelt. Even abusers can turn on the tears when apologizing. Not buying into her act.”

I’ve met Melissa Harris-Perry. She’s an academic, not an actress.

When someone says they’re sorry and it’s them saying it and not a spokesperson, agent or some crisis manager, it should be accepted as genuine and heartfelt until proven otherwise. Everyone screws up. It’s how you handle the screw-up and move past it that matters.

Some folks insist on having their pound of flesh and will keep carving until they get it.

She fucked up. She apologized multiple times. The object of the insult accepted the apology.

On her Right flank, MHP is taking flak for an apology judged insincere. On her Left flank, MHP is catching hell for apologizing at all. They’re both full of it. Only the blindest partisans and the terminally cynical would doubt the sincerity of the apology.

Romney didn’t seem to as he said on Fox, “I think people recognize, and the folks at MSNBC who have apologized recognize, people like me are fair targets: If you get in the political game, you can expect incoming. For children, that’s beyond the line. I think they understand that and feel that as well. I think it’s a heartfelt apology, and I think for that reason we hold no ill will whatsoever.”

That should be it. Of course it’s not.

Mitt Romney didn’t have to accept Harris-Perry’s apology as being sincere. That he did speaks to his compassion and understanding that human beings–even ones on MSNBC–fail and when they try to do the right thing after doing the wrong thing, they should be forgiven.

Nothing has changed how I feel about Harris-Perry and her guests heavy-handed and dim-witted attempt at humor at a child’s expense. But let’s not overreact here, okay? This isn’t the first person in the media to screw up and go after a kid or any other soft target. MHP used poor judgment and she got rightfully called out for it.

I hope she learns from her mistakes and grows from the experience. Too often others in the same position haven’t apologized. Not sincerely, not insincere or at all.

For every one Melissa Harris-Perry royally effing up there are dozens of examples of a Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, Bill Maher, Al Sharpton or Alec Baldwin saying something simultaneously stupid and horrific and any apology, if one is offered at all, comes grudgingly and delivered with a smirk, a snicker and a wink.

I didn’t see any of that in Harris-Perry’s apology. I guess her haters did.

In the depressingly vast sea of Whiteness of cable TV talking heads, Melissa Harris-Perry provides a shot of not only much needed racial diversity, but a degree of intelligence, wit and class to a medium conspicuously short of all the above.

It’s time to forgive and forget and mostly forget.

The year was 2003…

South Park had an episode named “All About Mormons” (<– watch it there if you have been asleep for the last 9 years) in their 7th season, in which they went through this seemingly far-fetched story and explanation of exactly what it is that Mormons Believe. At the time, I was without a car after a near-death situation back at the beginning of that summer, so I had nothing but time when I was not working 60 hours a week to get myself back into one.

When it went off, I went RIGHT to the internets to check the “this is bullshit” meter on this. What resulted was a “Phillip is awake until 4am” internet journey looking further into the Book of Mormon. What I learned at the time was not only PRECISELY outlined in the episode, but it was what took me deeper into the rabbit hole that had me up until 4 in the morning. More on that in a minute.

As I have stated here before, I have NO qualms admitting that I was raised in the church and my understanding of the bible leaves me not willing to take it literally so much as understanding that 2012 science is what it was then, so the tenor of HOW what was written was written reflects that. I prefer to take the lesson and apply to a more current situation. I do what works for me.

This matters because this “research” was done in 2003, and I became aware of Romney when he ATTEMPTED to run for president in 2008, but stalled out in the primaries. The moment I read that he was Mormon, I was done with him.

Last week, AlterNet posted a story/link that detailed one of the tenets of Mormon belief; that Jesus would return to the earth in Independence Missouri (lol, I said Missouri) AND Jerusalem and rule for (only?) 1000 years. His return in this manner was tied to a United States in a constitutional crisis and on the verge of collapse and that the savior making way for Jesus’ return would himself be a Mormon and that OTHER Mormons would be made “Gods” themselves on the other side of this.

Now, we all know that Joseph Smith was a CONVICTED con-man. What we may have missed is that he is apparently a very bad fanfiction novelist whose most famous and influential work was loosely based on what we SHOULD believe about the New Testament with a sprinkling of what he could – for his own personal gain – convince us that we should believe about it.

And this is where Willard Mittens Romney comes in.

See, having read and pretending to believe what this fan fiction novel contains, he has used his privileged position to rise in the ranks of this “church,” using it to avoid military service and generally avoid the onus of having to behave like a decent human being when conveniently avoidable. Now having lost the 2008 GOP race, and seeing that a party whose policies have CREATED the problem that currently dog the country and its economy, Mittens has created HIMSELF as the “Mormon savior” who will save the US from certain doom.

Now, Mormons only make up about 2% of the US population and EVERY SINGLE ONE of those voting for Mitt might not make so much of a difference in his outcome of the election. What must be watched is the number of people who might still wake up on Election Tuesday still needing to be convinced to actually vote at all. Drawing the fact that some might be convinced to buy Joseph Smith’s snake oil will EASILY believe that Mitt is – instead of an entitled asshole who is growing increasingly frustrated that he has to be more aggressive than he feels he has to be – the aforementioned “savior” of America named in Smith’s fanfic novel.

But no, not me…

Again, my mind was made up the moment that Romney’s name came to my attention. Well, one could say that it was made four years before that. Maybe it is just me, but I cannot actively allow myself to trust a dude who ADMITS to believing something like that and then appears more to be using it for his own personal gain.

In other words, Romney never had my vote, and it was never because anyone involved was black or white.

I don’t know what it means to “look presidential”. But in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the media keeps saying that Pres. Obama is “looking presidential.” Yep, that’s all I keep hearing. Well damn, is he supposed to look like someone running around screaming like he’s in the path of a Tsunami yelling, “RUN NIGGA, RUN… THEY SHOOTIN!!!” I mean seriously, how else is the man supposed to act? OK, don’t answer that.

Oh, and wanna hear something crazy? The head of FEMA under George W. Bush during the Hurricane Katrina debacle — you remember that, don’t you? –has the nerve to say that Pres. Obama responded too quickly to Hurricane Sandy. Yes, sometimes the jokes write themselves, folks. Can you believe this mess? Yep, says the guy responsible for the Hurricane Katrina debacle.

This from Huffington Post:

Michael Brown, the former FEMA director infamously praised by President George W. Bush for doing a “heckuva job” during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, told a local paper that President Barack Obama acted too quickly in mobilizing relief for Superstorm Sandy.

“Here’s my concern,” Brown told Denver’s Westword on Monday, suggesting that the official response was actually making people complacent. “It’s premature [when] the brunt of the storm won’t happen until later this afternoon.”

Obama declared states of emergency all along East Coast states in the path of Sandy on Sunday, well before the storm hit, allowing federal resources to start flowing where governors thought they would be needed. FEMA and local responders were able to pre-position a lot of the material being drawn upon now.

Obama also held a press conference warning people to pay careful attention to the storm.

Now I don’t know about you, but even while considering the source, this has to be the dumbest thing I’ve heard related to the Superstorm. OK, well, maybe not the dumbest, but pretty damn close. I mean the nerve of this guy crawling out of a hole to say something beyond idiotic. I mean, what was Obama supposed to do? Aside from attempting to “look presidential,” was he supposed to do a fly over and wave while people stranded in the path of the storm stood on the roof of their homes begging for help? Like I said, I don’t know what it is to “look presidential,” but I’m sure that what George W. Bush did before and after Hurricane Katrina ain’t it.

Oh, and speaking of “looking presidential,” did you hear about Mitt Romney’s fake hurricane relief event in Ohio on Tuesday? Well, while one of his top surrogates — Gov. Chris Christie — ran around cupping the balls and kissing the feet of Barack Obama om Tuesday (an act for which he has come under fire from Conservatives). Never to be outdone when it comes to seizing any opportunity to seem human, Romney hosted a supposed non-campaign event with the intent to collect food and supplies for victims ravaged by the hurricane. Though well-intentioned, this gesture was not encouraged by the American Red Cross (click to read why). But that wasn’t the problem per se; the problem was Romney, being Romney: a wealthy man who fails to connect with everyday people.

According to BuzzFeed, the campaign encouraged supporters to bring hurricane relief supplies and “deliver the bags of canned goods, packages of diapers, and cases of water bottles to the candidate, who would be perched behind a table along with a slew of volunteers and his Ohio right-hand man, Senator Rob Portman.” And because nothing says “I’m compassionate,” like the release of photos of supporters handing supplies to Romney at this event. The Romney campaign themselves purchased $5000 worth of supplies and gave them to empty-handed attendees themselves.

Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, “What if we dropped off our donations up front?”

The volunteer gestured toward a pile of groceries conveniently stacked near the candidate. “Just grab something,” he said.

Two teenage boys retrieved a jar of peanut butter each, and got in line. When it was their turn, they handed their “donations” to Romney. He took them, smiled, and offered an earnest “Thank you.”

Isn’t that awesome? Isn’t that what “looking presidential,” is all about? Yep, sometimes you have to fake it to make it in this world. And apparently the Romney campaign takes this mantra very seriously. If they didn’t, why then would they not only stage a fake hurricane relief rally, but also release photos of a recent event in Nevada and use Photoshop to make the crowd in attendance seem larger than they were in reality? Oh well, don’t be surprised if you see Mitt washing dishes at a New Jersey soup kitchen before November the 6th, 2012. Surely he can use another photo-op.

The fact that polls are indicating that President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney are practically tied, says a lot. To me, what it says is that there are many likely voters who are willing to trust a very wealthy lying-ass white man, than they would a black man as president of the United States.

No seriously, if anyone paid half-assed attention to the presidential debates — especially the final debate on foreign policy where Romney practically cupped Obama’s balls all night long and told 24 lies in 41 minutes — there’s no way that the race for the White House should not be this close. But then again, maybe I’m underestimating the strength of the idiot vote. Because at this point, it’s hard to take undecided voters seriously.

This from Talking Points Memo:

Americans are both warming up on the economy and to Republican Mitt Romney’s candidacy, according to a national poll released Sunday by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal.

Romney and President Obama are tied among likely voters at 47 percent apiece, although Obama holds the advantage among registered voters 49 percent to 44 percent nationally. Obama also holds wide leads on a host of personal qualities, including a 16-point lead on which candidate is better at “looking out for the middle class,” 13-percent lead on “being knowledgeable and experienced enough to handle the presidency,” and a large 32-point advantage on “being easygoing and likable.”

But Romney is ahead on who’s “better prepared to create jobs and improve the economy over the next four years” by a 4-point spread, 45 percent to 41 percent.

“What appears to have benefited Romney, especially after the first two presidential debates, is that voters are more comfortable with him,” NBC News Senior Political Editor Mark Murray wrote about the findings. “A combined 47 percent of registered voters say they are either optimistic and confident or satisfied and hopeful that Romney would do a good job as president — up five points since the last NBC/WSJ poll.”

Romney maintains a tiny advantage in the PollTracker Average of the presidential race nationally.

I know, some of you are tired of me pulling the race card; and yes, I know for some of you liars Obama being black has no bearing on your decision to support Romney. Sure, I believe you: You’re supporting Romney because he has better policies, and Obama has made things worse.

But you want to know what’s funny about that position? What’s quite peculiar, is the fact that Romney hasn’t said as much as anything remotely close to anything like a plan for fixing the economy. All I ever hear from Romney is blah, blah, blah… five point plan… blah, blah, blah… 12 million jobs… blah, blah, blah… the black guy sucks…. blah blah, blah… vote for me… blah, blah, blah…. the black guy sucks…. blah, blah, blah… I’ll make your wildest dreams come true.

Yes, just ask economist Paul Krugman:

I’ve been delving a bit into what the Romney campaign and its economist fellow-travelers have been saying, and I think I have figured out the true economic doctrine Romney and his inner circle have in mind. It is, needless to say, not what the campaign has claimed.

The official line has been that the five-point program will create scads of jobs. This has a couple of problems. First, the program is vacuous — for the most part it’s a statement of desired outcomes, not policies. Second, as Glenn Kessler points out, the studies claimed as justification for the 12-million jobs number actually don’t say at all what the campaign asserts.

[…] So the Romney campaign is lying about the rationale for its boasts about jobs. But what’s the real story?

The answer is actually pretty clear: CONFIDENCE. The Romney notion is that we’d be having a rip-roaring recovery right now, except that Job Creators feel that Obama is looking at them funny. And so all Romney has to do is show up, and happy times will be here again. No, seriously: in Boca Raton Romney declared that simply by being elected he could start a boom, “without actually doing anything”.

And boy did Romney show up at the debate in Boca Raton, Florida last night.Basically, a there was different Mitt Romney on the debate stage. It was as though somehow he was transformed by Mormon Jesus into a peace-loving, weed-smoking hippie who rolled into town on a horse with no name and binders full of bayonets. For a minute I forgot that he was actually the cold-blooded corporate Sith Lord surrounded by neocons hell-bent on going to war with everyone in the world unwilling to work for pennies like the cheap Chinese labor from which he profits. And please believe, the world is watching; and from the looks of it, they’d rather have Hitler back than Mitt as POTUS.

At least Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson can admit that race has a lot to do with it…

So some right-wing idiot just hit me up and said, “Rosie Perez is an ‘illegal’ and should be deported,” in response to the following campaign ad. Yeah, of course he was white. I mean, what else would you expect? Much like the anti-immigrant crowd, to them, by Rosie being a person of color with an accent, she’s “an illegal.” Don’t believe me? Well, take it from me; I’m black, and I’m also an immigrant. And quite naturally, in right-wing world, this means I’m too lazy to steal a job from myself; yes, and like Rosie, I too have a funny accent. Which is funny because without seeing me, my government name would have you assuming that I was quite possibly a recovering Irish-Catholic drunk — at least that’s what a nun in Catholic school once told me when I was seven-years-old.

But anywhichaways, check out the following ad put together by Actually.org. In their first ad of this election cycle, Rosie obliterates Mitt Romney for jokingly stating that his life would be better if he was Latino, and not the wealthy and successful privileged white man that he was cursed to be.

Oh, and by the way, Rosie Perez was born in Brooklyn.

I’ve noticed some people make light of all of the so-called “undecided” voters that always seem to get mentioned on these polls that are going around. “Who are these idiots?” “Do they not know who is running?” “Do they even know who the current president is?” I know I read a couple of others during the debate as well, but that is neither here nor there. What matters here is just WHO these “undecided” voters that people seem to be so concerned with railing the existence of actually are. Yes, these people do exist, and they exist in apparently desirable-as-a-target numbers.

Who are they? They’re people who are registered to vote, but have no real plans to actually get out and exercise that vote. Polls tout the “For Romney” people, the “For Obama” voters and the “undecided” voters. I would hedge a bet that the people who are GOING to vote have known who they were going to vote for, for months if not years. All Santorum jokes aside, I know I did.

What the polls don’t have is an accurate depiction of the people who are of the opinion that, “fuck you, the Electoral College makes votes in my state pretty much useless anyway,” or the “hell, I ain’t fond enough of EITHER of these assholes to vote at all” people.

Trust me, they exist.

They exist, and THEY are the ones who this dog-and-pony show is for. No one who had made up their mind to get behind a candidate is going to change their minds, especially not this late in the game. The people who CAN be swayed, though, are the ones who are so in-the-middle that they do not have an opinion that necessarily needs changing, so much as they have an INdecisiveness that needs to be coaxed one way or the other.

The rest of most political discourse/debate between the candidates AND their backers is more a matter of the act of license to insult people once every couple of years without them getting quite angry enough to catch an assault charge. Some of those with lower self-esteem may need election cycles to get that kind of a thing out every once in a while, no? In the meantime, those “undecided” voters might represent the most valuable votes in what MIGHT have otherwise been a close race before a certain candidate began to display a tragic inability to NOT step on his own dick time after time.

Much has been said about disappointing performance at last weeks presidential debate. Like most of my fellow lefty friends, I believe President Barack Obama squandered a perfect opportunity to call into question the many lies of Mitt Romney. But like the old saying, it’s all water under the bridge at this point. And to be honest, I think the media has overstated a direct correlation between Obama’s performance, and Romney’s subsequent bounce in the polls. A bounce that has all but evaporated in recent days I might add. Yep, relax Obama supporters; chill out. we got this; it’s not over.

Yes the race is pretty much tied at this point nationally; however, I doubt whether any of it has to do with Obama’s performance. Of course, I can be wrong; and maybe I’m overestimating the political sophistication of potential voters whom I believe didn’t fall for Romney’s lies; or, the media driven hype that says that Obama got stomped. That aside, I think not enough has been said in media circles about just how horrible the debate was moderated by Jim Lehrer. In my opinion, had he handled his duties differently, the percieved outcome would’ve been different.

After an initial burst of criticism, Jim Lehrer said “everybody is pretty well chilled-out” now about his performance as moderator of the first presidential debate this fall, and he believes it will start a new era with less involvement by moderators and more direct interaction by candidates.

Lehrer made his remarks Monday night to Sean Hannity on “Fox News.” Hannity pronounced the PBS news veteran’s performance “great” and extremely fair.

The furor over last Wednesday’s debate between President Obama and GOP nominee Mitt Romney has created strange bedfellows. Liberals who usually are big fans of PBS criticized Lehrer for being too passive, while conservatives who often hammer the public network and call for its federal funding to be cut, defended the 78-year-old anchorman.

Lehrer noted the barbs he endured for not following up more aggressively with the two candidates. But he said that was the goal of the new debate format established by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

“The whole point was … if there was going to be any challenging, the candidates were going to have to do it themselves,” Lehrer said. “I was going to facilitate the challenging, but I wasn’t going to do it myself.”

Lehrer had hoped to try the new format in the last presidential race, but he said Republican nominee John McCain “didn’t want to play, so it didn’t work” in his debate with then-Sen. Barack Obama. Last Wednesday’s face-off was a natural progression from the less-engaging encounter of four years ago, Lehrer said.

Lehrer quipped that he was “not really keen on criticism” aimed at him. But he said the attacks had dissipated because 67-million people watched at least part of the televised debate and “spin doesn’t work if everyone has seen the event.” (source)

I don’t know about you, but I would have preferred a more aggressive Lehrer, much like the badass in the following video. New format or not, I don’t think Lehrer understood his role as debate moderator.

Not that cutting federal funding for PBS will kill Big Bird – because it won’t. But, what does it say about Romney’s proposal to increase the military budget, while de-funding education? It says that Romney doesn’t have his priorities in order. Or does he? After all, if he had it his way he’d give the parents of kids living on Sesame Street the gift of school choice. That would be, a golden ticket to attend a privately owned school subsidized by government funds, much to the delight of one of his corporate friends. This is nothing exactly new given the fact that most of our tax-payer funds have been utilized in more profitable endeavors other than education. Having said that, why then are we mad at Romney for wanting to fire Big Bird?

Sesame Street character Big Bird’s name came up at Wednesday night’s first presidential debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney.

As Romney noted what entities he would stop funding, he mentioned the president’s health care law, then added that he would also stop a subsidy to PBS.

He said to moderator Jim Lehrer, who works for PBS: “I’m sorry, Jim. I’m going to the stop the subsidy to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS. I love Big Bird. I actually like you, too. But I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for it.”

As Republican Mitt Romney pledged to cut funding to PBS — adding, “I like PBS, I love Big Bird” — commenters on Twitter leaped to the defense of their favorite “Sesame Street” characters. Big Bird was a major Twitter trend throughout the night, while Oscar the Grouch and Bert and Ernie also featured. Twitter said that shortly after Romney’s remarks, users were posting 17,000 tweets per minute mentioning Big Bird. A spoof Twitter account, @firedbigbird, quickly won thousands of followers, while others shared a jokey, doctored photo showing the character posing with a cardboard sign pleading for work. (source)

Yes, think the prison industrial complex, the military industrial complex, and all of the other complexes that encourages and promotes corporate welfare. Yep, no welfare for the lovable friends of children across the world that have magically entertained and educated many of adults as old as myself. But, thank God there are still child labor laws to protect the countless children short-changed by politicians who sell the idea that the problem with education is greedy teachers and unions. Because of those laws, children in America can be spared the humility pf being exploited sweat shop labor — because, American exceptionalism says we don’t do that to kids in America. Kids in Other countries however? Yeah well, somebody has to do it, right? After all, not every child in the world can be fortunate to sit in classrooms being prepared for either a prison cell or a war zone.

You know, it’s really good to see Barack Obama evolve. Four years ago, he came under fire — mostly from black folks — for having the late Bernie Mack tell a few off-color jokes at a Chicago campaign fundraising event. Back then I defended Mack in the face of criticisms from a few uppity negroes around the internet. You know, the ones who were holding their assholes tight (like they always do) because they spent $2500.00 a plate at a fundraiser in hopes of helping a black man who was beloved by white folks become president. Yeah, y’all pretentious-ass uppity negroes kill me.

But here we are four years later, and the hardest working man in Hollywood, Samuel L. Jackson has a new campaign ad to promote support for Obama’s reelection. And what’s so cool is that he uses the word “fuck” more than once in the ad. Even cooler, is that he manages to have a little white girl repeat the f-bomb at the end of the commercial. Now I say the ad is cool because as you know, I’m not above using certain words in an attempt to get some of you ig’nant people to hear me. Yes, just like the ad, it’s about urgency; it’s about showing just how real this shit is.

No word on whether our Republican friends approve of a little white kid saying such filth in a campaign commercial; however, I’m sure at some point it will come up. After all, you know how much “certain people” are opposed to their children being indoctrinated by Obama and his Hip Hop homies. That said, check out the following video and tell me if you think it’s inappropriate

More importantly, wake the fuck up, will you? Seriously, understand that this election is probably the most important in modern history. Why? Because once upon a time there was this event called the Great Recession; yeah. that happened. Do you remember that? Well, if you do you’ll understand that the guy running against Obama has policies that will, well, make this country look like something out of a Mad Max movie if he wins. So yeah, there’s no need for me to go into much detail more than I have on this site. So yeah, wake the fuck up and get involved, will you?

Election Got You Wanting to Move to Another Country? The cute thing being said around the country as Election Day approaches is “if [candidate] doesn’t win, I am moving to [country].” I am convinced that anyone who says this and even kind of means it has NO idea what it would take to complete such a move. I hate to be the bearer of bad news or to wreck peoples’ dreams. I’m lying like shit, I rather enjoy doing this. Anyway, we know I am being the bearer of bad news now, but the fact of the matter is that no one who felt the need to say that is ACTUALLY going to do it. Today, I will talk about specifically why they won’t.

1- What other languages do you know?

Yes, most other countries on the planet with the type of schooling systems that would make them desirable places to live teach their children to speak not only their own native language(s) but English as well. Don’t expect, though, to just waltz into every country and expect everyone to bend to your will that they speak English with you. Most Americans don’t know a word of any other languages other than insults and profanities. Not helpful.

2 – What can you do for them?

Remember this: a large part of the divide in America is the widening gap between the “haves” and the “have-nots.” A large consideration in this is that some feel that America is too lenient on allowing MORE “have-nots” onto their shores and then coddling them until they get their shit together – if they ever bother to do so. Well, the fact remains that securing a Visa to immigrate to most other countries if you do not already have dual citizenship will generally require that you prove a good enough reason to be allowed to be there. If you couldn’t make it here to the point that the winner of an election caused you to want to renounce your citizenship and move away, all I can say is “good luck!”

3 – Where will you work?

Furthermore, how will you secure work? As someone who tolerates his place of employment and looks incessantly for better opportunities, I can assure you that indeed.com does not have an international search option. Long story short – and this could have easily fallen under “What will you do for us?” – securing a job internationally will usually require an international education or a US one that is discernibly valuable to another country’s interest. In other words, you’d likely already be working for a company that might be willing or in need of someone to work overseas, and you’d already have your ‘in.’

4 – No one is impressed with America anymore.

If you thought it would be as easy as “shit, I’m AMERICAN, I’m a hot commodity the world over!” then you were dead ass wrong. Generally unhealthy, entitled, lazy, undereducated, arrogant are all descriptions that have applied to Americans. Don’t let me be the one to break that to you. A perfunctory Google search will unearth the same results.

“Well why do people want so badly to come here then?”

Wait, you left because Obama won, and you're not racist?

Ever visited a third-world country? I have… On the other side of the manicured beaches and resorts normally resides a comparative shithole that the locals will have to return to after you’ve barely covered their otherwise meager living expenses being touristy. $7.75 an hour is a gold mine compared to that. The ability to get considerably more than that $7.75 an hour is motivation enough to work and go get it. Along with people from war-torn countries where a grenade landing in their breakfast is a real possibility, THOSE are the people who want to come to America.

Industrialized countries – the ones spoken of as if they matter on your preferred news sites – have citizens who are fine with being there. Obesity is not a rampant health concern, and even the NON-rampant ones don’t become pandemic due to a lack of coverage due to providers trying to coin them to death. They get better educations, are generally more cultured and overall mature and less violent as well.
… and they usually speak English better than any of us.

Those are the ones who stay put.

And yes, I am aware that most of what I have said in this post is applicable to my one-language-speaking ass as well. The difference is that I am not the one bitching about the need to move away if my candidate du jour does not win the election.

Now if after reading this, you still think trying to move away if you don’t get what you want, please do me the favor of letting me know how that works out for you.
