Beautiful country, and for the most part, beautiful people. I loved the warm acceptance I was granted, even though I’m American (and I was too young to fully understand that anti-American sentiment that as prevalent there). One family semi-adopted me when it was clear my marriage was on the rocks, and I needed a safe place to stay until I could get a flight back stateside. The family that adopted me is a gorgeous blend of Latino & Black – I (and my then-infant son) were the weird Other outsiders. After a few days of gawking, I became yesterday’s news, and all the neighborhood children came by daily to play with my son & walk him around the neighborhood.

Positive and negative memories, and a strong desire to return and visit the wonderful folks who cared for me while I was there. Dunno if that will ever happen. As you say, can’t go home again, eh? Even if it was never technically home for me, Panama holds a dear place in my heart of memory.
