The lack of human compassion displayed by this GROUP of people is mindboggling. It is also unfortunate because as you stated the average person would not know that the monies were not going where they were supposed to. You want to support the organizations that are tasked with supporting people battling cancer or whatever social issue but you hesitate because where exactly is the money going and how much of it is actually doing what it is supposed to do. No sure fire way to tell. You can check financial statements that are filed and see how they say the money is spent. Short of talking to people who are clients of an org though it is hard to tell. I can say one thing though Charity Navigator is your friend and that is a good place to start when trying to figure out what a non-profit is up to and how they are fulfilling their mandate and mission

I’ve been angry and confused about where all the money goes that is raised in the name of breast cancer for a few years now. These organizations were extremely egregious in their actions, but in the articles that I’ve read, the most frustrating part of this is that a normal person who just wants to do a good thing, they would not have really had a way to know that this organization was a fraud. As a survivor, hell as a human being, that angers me. People want to do good and instead they are tricked out of their money. How horrible. Meanwhile, the cancer community is struggling to find answers and some organizations are catching hell because they are the face of breast cancer or the face of pediatric cancer and people judge them harshly based on the actions of completely unrelated organizations.

Sorry for the rant. But this story (and a few others) just frustrates me. Thank you for this post.
