Little late on this one. But I think, as ill-thought an idea as it was, that she meant “me & my niggas in Paris 4 real”. As in the white girls standing there with her were also “her niggas.” I know it sounds counterintuitive but I think that’s the case here.

Haven’t you been around Hispanic & Asian people who use the term with each other in a way that is 100% co-opted? It’s weird but I bet it’s a glimpse of a future when the word has lost all of its original meaning.

While I still don’t personally need an apology from Gwyneth, I honestly can’t sit here and pretend as if she didn’t become *too* familiar and was arrogant enough to think she could Tweet the word. And of course there’s the whole “intent” and “context” argument, or that she put some asterisks in between the word, so it doesn’t count, but I’m more agitated with the rappers who led her to believe that it was OK to be that familiar. Some of us shrugged the gaffe off, but the fact still remains that for some folks, it just *isn’t* cool and it’s their right to not have to be OK with it. But I def think it’s time to move on to more pressing issue(s) that are currently affecting us, and hopefully Gwyneth learned some sort of lesson (she prob didn’t but whatever).

As someone stated on another forum, this is a case of “when privilege meets Black complicity”… some Black folks are def complicit in making White people think it’s OK to be comfortable enough to say or Tweet “Nigga” or any other disparaging word we don’t like.
I also think The Dream and Russell Simmons rushing to her defense was disingenuous bollocks. And I don’t buy anything Russell is trying to sell in his GlobalGrind piece, because it’s nothing more than a rich, Black rap impresario, going to bat for his wealthy, White friend because he digs her and wants her to be *down*.

Either way, I don’t want to expend anymore energy on this foolery.
