Hillary Clinton recently said that half of Donald Trump’s supporters belonged in a “basket of deplorables.” She highlighted their racist, xenophobic, and bigoted views to justify this claim. While Clinton has come under fire for plainly stating this, the truth is that she’s absolutely spot-on about the base of Trump’s support. I’m just not sure if a “bucket,” is enough to fit the rolling dumpster fire of weaponized stupid that is Trump’s most virulent fans.

Here’s Hillary’s full quote:

“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic — you name it. And unfortunately, there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people — now 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric. Now some of those folks — they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America.”

There’s enough evidence to support Clinton’s claim. In fact, as I pointed out some time ago, polling shows that a majority of Trump’s white supporters are of the opinion that they’ve lost a foothold on the American dream because of minorities. Which if true – which, it absolutely isn’t – just says that some white folks are letting their privilege go to waste. Yes, apparently they’re not doing “whiteness” right. However, if asked to trade places with a person of color, they’d probably spit in your face and call you anything but a child of God.

Here are a few nuggets borne out by polling via ThinkProgress:

• Two-thirds of Trump supporters believe that Obama is a Muslim
• 59% of Trump’s supporters believe that Obama wasn’t born in America
• 40% of Trump’s supporters believe blacks are more “lazy” than whites
• 50% of Trump’s supporters believe blacks are more violent than whites
• 16% of Trump’s supporters believe that “whites are a superior race.”
• 20% of Trump’s supporters are opposed to Lincoln freeing the slaves

In the event that much of what I’ve said about Trump is the same ole same old liberal media bias. Do me a favor and check out the following video. In it, you’ll see South Carolina Trump supporters waving Confederate flags, express their racist, xenophobic, and islamophobic views as reasons for support Donald Trump for president. In doing so, many of them warn us of what they see as the impending horror that is “White ethnic cleansing.”

You may be of the opinion that it wasn’t a smart move politically on the part of Clinton. After all, the rules of political campaigning say that supporters of your opponents are off limits to candidates. However, this being an atypical election cycle where conventional rules do not exist. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with what Clinton said. After all, isn’t the other side all about placing a premium on political incorrectness, as well as, giving rise to the far-right fringe of the Republican party who has rebranded themselves as the alt-right?

To hear Parick tell it, Obama has been unsympathetic to the plight of police officers. Instead, according to Patrick, Obama has thrown all his support behind the Black Lives Matter movement. If you share Patrick’s opinion, then obviously you haven’t been paying much attention. Obama has always said and continues to understand both sides of the argument. But,if you missed this, it’s either you haven’t been paying attention like I said. Either that or you’re blinded by your ideological leanings. But hey, don’t take my word for it.

A Kansas cop was fired for making bizarre online threats against a complete stranger’s young daughter after the attack on Dallas police.

Officer Rodney Lee Wilson was dismissed from the Overland Park force Friday after he commented on a public photo of LaNaydra Williams’ daughter, India — a 5-year-old who lives about 500 miles away in Dallas.

“We’ll see how much her life matters soon,” he wrote on a 2014 photo showing little India posing in a pair of boots. “Better be careful leaving your info open where she can be found Hold her close tonight it’ll be the last time.”

The chilling comment came just after five Dallas cops were killed while protecting an anti-police brutality protest downtown.

Unfortunately, this is not the only example of abhorrent behavior on the part of police officers. In Memphis, Tennessee, two police officers were suspended without pay for posting a racially offensive threatening post on Snapchat.

If a police officer would go as far as to threaten a 5-year-old black child on social media. What then are we supposed to think a police officer like Rodney Lee Wilson would do, while on patrol? Of course, all police officers are not like Rodney Lee Wilson. Similarly,  every black person protesting against police brutality and the use of deadly force is not like the Dallas shooter, Micah X. Johnson. If we’re to get anywhere moving forward, this must be understood by everyone. As for Wilson, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Because what he did was criminal. After all, black lives matter, yes?

Congressional leaders on Friday voiced dismay and outrage over the killings of police officers in Dallas and called on the American people to unify, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus, while echoing the grief and calls for healing, also demanded that Republicans allow votes to tighten the nation’s gun laws.

“We come to this place each week to represent our constituents who are in pain,” said Representative G.K. Butterfield, Democrat of North Carolina and the chairman of the caucus. “As of June 30, just a few days ago, 491 Americans have been fatally shot by the police; most of those were African-American.”

Mr. Butterfield added, “Last night, despicable crimes were committed against Dallas police officers, and when the dust settled five of them were dead as a result of an organized execution by criminals who possess guns and use them to the extreme. And so the Congressional Black Caucus convenes today to say to America we are continuing our fight to remove guns from the hands of terrorists and would-be criminals.”

Democrats, including the 45-member Black Caucus, have been pushing Republicans to schedule votes on gun control proposals even though those measures are sure to be defeated and similar proposals have already failed in the Senate. They include an effort to block gun sales to individuals on the government’s no-fly list, and a strengthening of mandatory background checks for gun buyers.

“Republicans, what on Earth are you, why are you recoiling and not giving us a debate on gun violence?” Mr. Butterfield said. “Why are you recoiling and not giving us a debate on gun violence? Why not give it a hearing, give us a debate, give us an up-or-down vote on our legislation on gun violence? Why?”

In an interview with C-SPAN yesterday, Sanders spoke of his role at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

“It’s hard to say,” he explained in an obviously softer and less defiant tone than normal when asked. “It doesn’t appear that I’m going to be the nominee so I’m not going to be determining the scope of the convention.”

Sanders continued by urging Democrats to “create the most progressive platform as we possibly can reflecting the needs of working families and students and the environment, health care and so forth.”

Recent polling shows that at least 55% of Sanders supporters will vote for Hillary Clinton as we move toward a November general election face off against Republican presumptive nominee, Donald Trump.

“The vast majority of the people who voted for me understand that Donald Trump in a dozen different ways is literally unfit to be president of the United States,” said Sanders. “And it’s not only his views on the issues… but mostly his making bigotry the cornerstone of this campaign.”

Bernie’s comments could not come at a better time. Currently, Trump is caught in the midst of a five-week downward spiral where he’s falling in the polls. That said, while Bernie has yet to do an outright concession speech, at least, for now, his head seems to be in the right place.

It’s left to be seen whether there will be a full floor fight at the Democratic National Convention for the party’s nomination. Hopefully, however, Bernie’s words here will quell any such ideas on the part of his most ardent supporters and delegates.

There’s one problem: Trump isn’t really trying to become the nation’s forty-fifth president. From the looks of it, with a lack of cash on hand and no real attempts to raise funds on the part of the Trump campaign, this unconventional unlikely candidate seems to be more intent on making  money for himself. To me, this became quite evident the moment Trump said that he’d consider dropping out of the race for $5 billion and not the measly $150 million it has been rumored. Yes, Donald Trump’s campaign is the political version of the Nigerian email scam. Uh-huh, and like always, suckers are falling for it hook, line, and sinker.

If the Republican party really cared about winning in November they’d pony up the $5 billion Trump said he’d take to drop out of the race. Yes, Trump did say he’d consider dropping out for that much. Yep, apparently making America great isn’t that important when you’re behind on your bills ‘n shit, like Trump.

If character, is what’s seen when nobody is looking, it’s hard to imagine Donald Trump being anything better than the piece shit that he is when the spotlight is on him. With his continued lies, incendiary and divisive bigoted rhetoric, it’s hard to imagine that Trump is serious.

This would explain why:

• Trump has yet to release his tax returns.
• Trump’s campaign has only 30 campaign staffers nationally.
• Trump campaigning in red states and not swing states.

I could go on and on with this, but I’ll stop for now. Instead, I’ll hand it over the Rachel Maddow in the video below. Maddow makes a very good case that Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is essentially a money making racket. She characterizes Trump’s campaign as a giant book tour, which explains why he is not assembling a real campaign staff or raising real campaign money. After watching the video, it all becomes clear. It especially becomes so, when Maddow chronicles just how much money is actually going to companies owned by Donald Trump.

Per The Huffington Post, Trump reported in May spending $423,372 for rooms and catering at his Mar-A-Lago club; $125,080 in rent and utilities to Trump restaurants; $35,845 on facilities rental and catering on the Trump National Golf Club; and $29,715 on facilities rental and catering at the Trump International Golf Club.

And that’s only a sample of the campaign money Trump used on his own businesses last month! In fact, The Associated Presshas found that expenditures on Trump’s own businesses account for 10 percent of his overall campaign spending so far.

Led by Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, dozens of fellow Democrats, Murphy wouldn’t yield the floor until his Republican colleagues agreed to take up gun control legislation in the wake of the nation’s deadliest mass shooting. In the video above, Senator Cory Booker was one of many who made a very emotional appeal. Cory Booker, the former mayor of Newark, New Jersey, knows all too well how guns have, and continue to ravage, the urban landscape largely inhabited by people of color.

Murphy, who began speaking at 11:21 a.m., was joined in his effort by Democratic colleagues including Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Sen. Ben Nelsonof Florida, Sen. Charles Schumer of New York and Sens. Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. As the day wore on, a steady stream of Democrats came to the floor to speak, relieving Murphy for brief stretches as the filibuster stretched into the evening hours.

The latest mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, being the worst in U.S. history has sparked yet another gun control debate. As has happened in the past, Congress has failed to act when it comes to passing legislation meant to expand current gun laws to include an expansion of background checks and the closing of the gun show loophole. POLITICO reports that there are dim hopes that today’s filibuster would motivate Senate Republicans to act in yet another election year. Which, as disappointing as it may sound, the Senate’s failure to act should serve as motivation for voters willing to sit out the general election because their favorite candidate isn’t the Democratic presidential nominee. One good thing is that a few Republicans actually assisted with today’s filibuster.
